1.1. Admission

1.1.2. What is the difference between a "college" and a "university"?

These words are used interchangeably in the United States. In fact, Americans often use the word "school" to describe any learning center, from a nursery school to a university. Generally, a college will be an institution of higher education with two- year (Associate of Arts) or four-year (Bachelor of Arts/Sciences) programs. A university also offers four-year bachelor's degrees, and also more advanced degrees (master's or doctorate). A bachelor's degree from a college and a university are equivalent.
