Sports scholarships cover all or part of the cost of
tuition and maintenance for higher education in the United States. Not
all universities offer scholarships for all sports.
The foreign student who wishes to apply for this kind of scholarship must
meet minimum academic requirements and take standardized tests (SAT and
TOEFL). He must comply with two sets of requirements: those of the
specific university, and those of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic
Association). Once at the universitiy, the student must have an acceptable
level of grades in order to keep the scholarship.
As a first step, the prospective applicant must contact the coaches directly.
For that, and since only a small percentage of them will answer, we
recommend the preparation of a standard letter (with name, address, age,
level of studies, physical data and history of achievements in the chosen
sport) and sending it to a good number of coaches at universities which
offer scholarships in that particular sport. In the case of sports which
are not based on measurements, it is useful to prepare a video showing the
student's abilities (in NTSC format).

It is very important to make sure that the university where you accept a
sports scholarship, also offers the courses of study that are of interest
to you. Besides the sports experience, the academic environment must be
the desired one.
