1.3. Fulbright Senior Specialists Program

 

Through the Fulbright Senior Specialists program academic institutions may request visits by U.S. Scholars and professionals to:

 

·      Take part in specialized academic programs and conferences in conjunction with other scheduled activities

  • Consult with administrators and instructors of post-secondary institutions on faculty development
  • Present lectures at graduate and undergraduate levels
  • Participate in or lead seminars or workshops at overseas academic institutions
  • Develop and/or assess academic curricula or educational materials
  • Conduct teachers-training programs at the tertiary level
  • Conduct needs assessments, surveys, and research related to institution or program development

 

PROCEDURE

Deadlines:

 

            March 1 – for projects that begin on or after July 1st.                                                 Julio 1 – for projects that begin on or after November 1st.                                        November 1 – for projects that begin on or after March 1st.                         

 

Priority will be given to joint projects between universities or post-secondary academic institutions with a great multiplier effect.

 

The Fulbright Commission should receive the request four months in advance of the proposed start date.

 

1— The Fulbright Commission reviews the Project.  If approved, the Commission submits the request to ECA for a second approval.

 

2— ECA reviews the Project. If approved, ECA forwards the request to the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) for processing

 

 

 

ELIGIBLE US PARTICIPANTS

 

Qualified U.S. academics must have a doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in their field, while professionals must have recognized professional standing and accomplishments. Both academics and professionals must work in one of the eligible academic disciplines and have a minimum of five years of either teaching or professional experience to apply.

 

The Fulbright Senior Specialists Program maintains a roster of hundreds of qualified scholars who are eligible to receive a grant. They have been reviewed by their peers and approved by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

 

Your institution may request a specific person for the project. In case this person is not already in the roster, he/she should go through the review and approval process above described.

 

 

HOST INSTITUTION’S REQUIREMENTS

 

Fund in-country costs including lodging, meals and in-country transportation. The host institution should provide the specialist with a per diem to cover meal and in-country travel expenses. This per diem should be provided upon arrival of the grantee in the country.

 

The Fulbright Program provides international airfare and an honorarium.

 

Provide the Fulbright Commission with an agenda of the activities scheduled for the Specialist. This should be provide at least 10 days before the grantee’s arrival in the country.

 

Advertise the specialist’s activities, mentioning the fact that he/she is a Fulbrighter and using the logo of the Fulbright Program for such purposes.

 

Not charge for the specialist’s activities.

  • U.S. Studies (The following specializations with a specific U.S. focus are eligible: General, Art, Art History, Dance, history, Literature, Music, Popular Culture, Religion, Theatre and Women’s Studies)
