1.4. Visas

1.4.1. What do I need to obtain a student visa (F-1)?

First you must get the I-20 form (Student Visa Eligibility Form) which will be issued to you by the college or university which accepts you for admission, indicating that there is a place for you at that institution. It is not possible to obtain a visa without this form, but having the form does not guarantee that you will receive a student visa. You must take it to the Consular Section of the US Embassy, with a valid passport, proof of financial support, and demonstrate your intention of returning to your home country after completing your studies.

1.4.2. What do I need to obtain an exchange visit visa (J-1)?

The "J" visitor program is designed to promote the interchange of persons, knowledge and skills in the fields of education, arts, sciences. Participants must have an DS2019 form prepared by a designated sponsoring organization.
